70 Christians Massacred in Africa: A Call for Justice and Prayer

On February 13, 2025, a heartbreaking tragedy struck the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), leaving the world reeling. Seventy Christians were brutally murdered by suspected militants from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group linked to the Islamic State. The attack unfolded in Mayba, a predominantly Christian community in North Kivu province, in the early hours of the morning.

Around 4 a.m., militants stormed the village, capturing and tying up 20 Christians. Witnesses recall how they moved door to door, ordering people to come out in silence. The captives were taken to an unknown location, leaving the village in fear. But the horror didn’t end there—soon after, the militants seized about 50 more Christians. All 70 were later taken to a Protestant church in Kasanga, where they were mercilessly killed using machetes and hammers.

The aftermath has been devastating. Ongoing violence has prevented families from burying their loved ones, forcing many to flee in search of safety. John Samuel, a legal expert for Open Doors in sub-Saharan Africa, condemned the attack, emphasizing the unchecked brutality that continues to plague the region. He called for international attention, urging prayers and support for those affected.

This massacre is one of the deadliest in Lubero territory, an area long tormented by ADF violence, which has displaced thousands and left a trail of destruction. The international community is urged to stand in solidarity with the Christians of the DRC—praying for peace, protection, and justice.

In the face of such unimaginable persecution, the resilience of the Christian community remains a powerful testament to their faith. Even in the depths of suffering, their hope shines through. Let us lift them up in prayer, believing that peace will prevail and justice will be served.
