
MANILA, Philippines — A Light Rail Transit Line-1 (LRT-1) train was briefly halted Thursday night after smoke was seen coming from a passenger’s mobile phone, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) reported.
The incident occurred around 10:02 p.m. at the Central Terminal Station northbound platform when a passenger left a phone on the floor after it suddenly emitted smoke.
According to LRMC, the train driver quickly removed the device, preventing the situation from escalating. Security and station personnel immediately secured the area.
Passengers were unloaded for a thorough inspection of the train, but no damage or suspicious objects were found.
“We are pleased to report that the incident had no major effects on the overall operations of the LRT-1,” LRMC said.
