MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday vowed that individuals involved in the flood control corruption scandal will be behind bars before Christmas, assuring the public that his administration is committed to holding those responsible accountable.
Speaking to reporters, Marcos said the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) is finalizing its probe into the anomalous flood control projects, adding that the government now has “solid and admissible evidence” against several officials and contractors.
“We are almost there. Before Christmas, these people will be in jail. We will make sure that justice is served,” Marcos said.
The President emphasized that while the investigation took time, the administration prioritized building a strong case to ensure convictions rather than rushed accusations.
“We cannot afford to let them go free just because of weak evidence. We want them prosecuted, convicted, and their stolen money returned to the people,” he added.
The ICI’s ongoing investigation has reportedly uncovered billions of pesos in overpricing and ghost projects in various flood control programs across the country.
Marcos earlier said that due process must still be observed but warned that the government would not tolerate any attempt to obstruct the investigation or protect those involved.
“We know who they are. Now, we will make sure they face the consequences,” the President said.
The Palace is expected to announce formal charges once the Department of Justice (DOJ) completes its review of the commission’s findings in the coming weeks.
