MANILA, Philippines — Fifteen members of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) have been relieved from their posts following allegations that they were involved in the robbery and rape of a Grade 9 student in Bacoor City, Cavite.
The Philippine National Police confirmed the relief order on Sunday, saying the drastic move aims to ensure a credible and transparent investigation into the disturbing accusations.
Initial reports state that the officers allegedly entered the victim’s home during a supposed anti-drug operation. Instead of conducting lawful enforcement activities, the group is accused of:
-
Stealing valuables inside the residence
-
Assaulting family members
-
The sexual assault of a teenage girl
The incident reportedly took place earlier this week, prompting immediate calls for a deeper probe.
PNP officials said the officers were removed from their positions to prevent any attempt to influence witnesses or disrupt the investigation.
“We will not tolerate any form of abuse, especially from those sworn to protect the public,”
a police spokesperson said, adding that administrative and criminal complaints are now being prepared.
The officers will remain under restrictive custody while the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) conduct parallel investigations.
Depending on the outcome, the relieved personnel may face:
-
Robbery charges
-
Rape and sexual assault charges
-
Grave misconduct
-
Dismissal from the service
The Department of Justice has also signaled readiness to assist, emphasizing that minors deserve absolute protection from any form of violence.
The case has sparked outrage online, with many demanding accountability and questioning how such abuses could occur within a specialized anti-drug unit. Child rights advocates and legal groups have also condemned the incident, urging authorities to ensure that the victim and her family receive immediate psychological support and legal protection.
The PNP assured the public that updates will be released as soon as validated findings become available. Meanwhile, the City Government of Bacoor has extended assistance to the victim’s family.
