In a tragic incident at La Mesa Dam in Barangay Greater Lagro, Quezon City, a security guard named Eduardo Padre was found dead after reportedly drowning on Saturday, August 24, 2025. The victim, aged 56, was last seen by his colleagues at around 5:30 a.m., and it was noted that he had not returned to his post, prompting fellow guards to initiate a search for him. Hours later, his body was discovered submerged in water near the dam’s guest house.
Rescue teams from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recovered Padre’s body, which was then sent to a funeral parlor for safekeeping. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation, with police looking into the possibility of foul play.
The incident took place amidst ongoing heavy rainfall attributed to the southwest monsoon, causing water levels at the dam to exceed their normal capacity. As of July 21, 2025, the dam reached its spilling level of 80.16 meters due to continuous downpours, which raised concerns about safety in the area.
Officials are urging residents and workers near water bodies to exercise caution during severe weather conditions to prevent similar accidents and ensure public safety.
