Five out of the six people injured after the February 28 collapse of a section of the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge are still recovering in a hospital in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. Among them are a couple and their child, a cancer survivor, who suffered a fractured left thigh.
The local government has pledged to cover the cost of the child’s surgery. Financial assistance was also provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The family received P10,000, while two other victims were given P5,000 each. The incident has prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the bridge’s collapse, which occurred shortly after it was opened to the public.
