Soaring temperatures have led to the closure of schools in nearly half of Manila, as the dry season begins in the Philippines. The national weather service has issued warnings about the heat index reaching dangerous levels, advising residents to avoid prolonged sun exposure. Last year’s heat wave caused frequent class suspensions, affecting millions of students.
Although temperatures are expected to reach only 33°C today, local governments have preemptively closed schools to ensure safety. This decision impacts over 2.8 million students in the capital region. In Malabon, more than 68,000 students are affected, while Valenzuela schools are shifting to online classes. The global rise in temperatures, driven by human activities, continues to disrupt education worldwide.
