In a shocking incident on Monday morning, Vice Mayor Atty. Omar Samama was shot while delivering a speech during a relief operation in Barangay Magaslong. The attack, which occurred in front of a large crowd, was captured on video.
Vice Mayor Samama, who also serves as a candidate for the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), was addressing his constituents when an unidentified assailant opened fire. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition, as confirmed by Maguindanao del Sur board member King Mangudadatu in a Facebook post.
The Ministry of the Interior and Local Government in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MILG-BARMM) has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “senseless and cowardly act” that undermines the peace in the Bangsamoro region. The agency has called for a swift and thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
In his social media statement, Mangudadatu portrayed Samama as a compassionate and dedicated public servant. He noted the overwhelming support Samama has received from the community and fellow officials in the aftermath of the incident.
Authorities are currently conducting an in-depth investigation to identify the perpetrator and uncover the motive behind this brazen assassination attempt.
